Initial Lifeguard Certification
For new lifeguards. Candidates must be at least 15 years old by the end of the course.
Candidates for the initial certification course must pass the following prerequisites:
1. Swim 300 yards consecutively (100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breaststroke, and 100 yards choice between front crawl or breast stroke).
2. Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 lb. diving brick and swim back to the starting point, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute 40 seconds.
3. Pass all rescue skill scenarios.
4. Pass all CPR skill scenarios.
5. Pass the written exam with a score of 80% or better.

Lifeguard Recertification
For current lifeguards whose certification is set to expire.
Candidates for the recertification course must pass the following prerequisites:
1. Swim 300 yards consecutively (100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breaststroke, and 100 yards choice between front crawl or breast stroke).

Water Safety Instructor Certification
For those interested in becoming certified swim instructors. Candidates must be 16 years old by the end of the course.
Candidates for the Water Safety Instructor course must pass the following prerequisites:
1. 25 meter swim of Front Crawl
at Level 4 Stroke Criteria.
2. 25 meter swim of Back Crawl
at Level 4 Stroke Criteria.
3. 25 meter swim of Breaststroke
at Level 4 Stroke Criteria.
4. 15 meter swim of Butterfly
at Level 4 Stroke Criteria.
5. Complete the Water Competency Sequence
Float or scull in a vertical position for 1 minute.
